My worst case scenario....

would be to have family come over to visit before I am ready to tell them about my disaffection.

It looks like my worst case scenario just might happen this weekend. I got a call from my younger sister a couple of days ago saying she's only about 4 1/2 hours away and was wondering if she and her two boys can come by and visit. Sure! The sad thing is, she has no idea what she's in for. Neither do I, for that matter.

Lots of luck with that! In my experience, it helps if one is able to explain choices in terms of principles. That way people recognize that you are serious and they cannot accuse you of wanting to sin.

If you are honest to yourself and honest to her then your relationship has a real chance.

Lemony, good luck and peace through out. I know the peace part will be hard, but I wish you all the peace you can find in your decisions. That and you can always pray your sister feels the same way, you just never knew. I know wishful thinking, but in a perfect world...

Hellmut – Thanks. That's a good idea about explaining things in terms of principles. I would love for them to be able to realize that I am not doing this because I am offended, I think I know more than god, or that I want to sin.

Cele – Peace has been something out of reach for a long time, but I hope that someday I will feel it again. Ah, I would love, love, love to have a sister come “out” with me. That is a nice thought!

I am experiencing that right now...my sister is coming out after 51 years as a TBM. I have been out 11 years, so I am helping her with her struggles. One thing I have said to her that has helped her come out to her family is this: ask them "My question to you is, in light of my new stance on religion, can you still love me as your mother/wife/sister/friend?" It puts that good ol' fashion Christianity right back in their laps and forces them to tell you if they can--or can't.

Sorry to hear of your sister's ill mental health. I hope she is alright.

peace,
ja

JA - Wow, I bet that it's nice to have a family member out with you after 11 years. Did you ever think it would happen with anyone in your family?

Thanks. I know I would feel so overwhelmed if I was in her situation. I feel bad for her. I did talk to her again yesterday, though, and she sounds like she's starting to feel a little better.
