Happy Birthday to me (yesterday)

Yesterday was really nice and really sucky. We'll start off with sucky and go to nice.

I got home from class and listened to our phone messages (I really have to stop doing that). My younger sister left her brother-in-law's house yesterday and was hoping to head down here today. After I heard the message I was kind of hoping someone in the house would throw up or something. Although another part of me is really starting to feel ready to move on as well. But I really, really don't want to do this. And, as far as I know, she is driving here as I write.

We decided to go out to dinner last night and Gluby ordered a dark beer (similar to Guinness) and I had my first cocktail, a cherry blossom. That went well. I liked my cocktail and even didn't mind the beer after the first few sips. And then my really nice former visiting teachers (we moved out of the ward last october) stopped by to give me a birthday plant (this was nice but a little nerve racking). I was sure they could smell alcohol on me, but it was almost 3 hours after we ate, so maybe not. I hope.

And I have had swollen glands in my neck that come and go ever since I had strep in February. Last night my right ear and my glands hurt so much that I could not sleep because every time I swallowed the pain woke me up. I went to the doctor's office this morning to find out that I do not have an ear infection. Sigh. I was hoping to get something to fix it. They did take blood for a mono test and a CBC, though, because this has been going on for so long.

Now, to the really nice part. Gluby bought me some oil pastel crayon type things and some nice colored pencils that can also be used as water colors or something (I know, this sentence reveals just how little I know about drawing, but I hope to put them to good use anyway - even if it does look like my son drew it), and two nice notebooks to draw in, and a huge chocolate cake (no, there wasn't a party, just us four.) It will take us weeks to eat this thing because it's so rich. Anyone want some cake?

Happy 31st Birthday to me!

Gee, thanks for not telling anyone about your B-day until it was over.

At least it started bad and ended good, not the other way around.
Happy Birthday.
Sorry to hear about your ear.

Late Happy Birthday Lemony, you and Sid share a birthday week.

I always like seeing what former Mormons try as their first alcholic beverage. How did you pick a Cherry Blossom and what is in it? And even more important, where did you go for dinner?

Happy Late Birthday! Sounds like you had a good one. I wouldn't worry about mormons smelling alcohol on your breath. I remember once at BYU I was at a park with a family home evening group (lame) & I mentioned that I smelled alcohol. Several of them were offended & said that it smelled like rotten fruit to them. (DUH...)

oh yeah, one more thing - I'm not a drinker (once or twice a year), but the strawberry martini at Cheesecake factory is to die for. I always ask for all drinks to be extra weak because drinks knock me out quick.

Happy B-Day LB! SOunds like you had a really nice day (except for the unnerving VT)! Keep us updated on the mono thing. That is a bear to deal with, but I have something that will help you if you have it. You can email me privately and I'll let you in on it :0)

Happy Bday LB!! We're the same age (I just turned 31 too).

As far as the cake thing goes, that's why I've started buying individual pieces.

Mmm, I would love some cake!! Happy b-day!!

Also, I am extra-super sure they didn't smell alcohol on you. They're not expecting to, so it would have to be very strong for them to notice it. One drink won't do it. Plus, I used to go get liquored up after work with my work friends, then go to activities with mormons. I just laughed and talked a bit more than normal and no one ever thought a thing of it.

Tee hee.

Hope you feel better quickly - sorry to hear you're in pain.

Bishop rick – Ha! Please forgive me. I felt like I was tooting my own horn a little too much to do it on my Birthday, so I decided to do it the day after. :)

Thanks for the congratulations as well as the condolences. Fortunately, my ear is starting to feel better. It was definitely a nice way to end the day. I wish you all could have been there, though. That would have made it even better!

Cele – Aha, that's right, it's Sid's B-day as well. Happy Birthday to us! Actually, my very first alcoholic beverage was red wine (way too strong), then Guinness (again, way to strong) and then a Dirty Girl Scout. I tried all of these in the same evening and had no more than a couple of sips of each. I prefer the candy drinks that cover up the flavor of the alcohol and Cherry Blossom seemed to be the most candy-like out of all of the drink available. It's called McMinimans bar and grill. Yum.

Jenni – Thanks. I hope the year goes well, as well!

FFG – Thanks! Ha, that's hilarious. I wonder what kind of rotten fruit it was. :)

I don't drink very often either, but that strawberry martini sounds good too. I always thought I would be the type of person who would take two sips and be stripping for everyone in the room. So far that hasn't happened. Not that I remember, anyway. :)

JA – It was a pretty nice day overall. The mono thing didn't even come to mind until the dr. mentioned it, and then I realized that it is possible that my exhaustion might not be completely due to emotional distress over the last 6 months. Or maybe it is. I guess I'll find out soon enough. If I do have it I'll be sure to email you!

Michelle – Thanks. The cake was delicious. Still is. Our freezer has three tupperware dishes with cake in them. :)

Aerin – Thanks, Aerin! When was your B-day? I probably would have bought smaller, individual treats for my B-day, but Gluby has his own ideas sometimes! :)

Wry Catcher – I wish I could send you some so it doesn't all end up on my hips.

I hope they couldn't. I know one used to drink when she was “less-active” and the other one had a husband who was not a member for almost 17 years, so it's possible that they recognized it. Oh, well! Sounds like your activity was much better than the one they had originally planned for. :)

Thank you. So far my ears have stopped hurting, but my glands are up and down still, and I am as tired as all get out (does that phrase date me?).

Happy birthday LB!! I'm anxious to see if you've had a visit from your sister...
I hope you feel better. Keep us posted on your test results. Our family has been hit with the sore throat and seasonal colds so I feel your pain.

Yikes, I am so behind on replying to comments!

Caryn - thanks, I'm feeling sort of better. Just trying to take it all a day at a time.

SML - thanks. Isn't someone else's B-day coming up soon? :)

Sideon - Yep. We should have an Aries party for all of us rams!
